Abstract
The role of en dog e nous indole-3-ace tic acid (IAA), sol u ble pro teins and RNA in the de vel op ment of tea (Ca mel lia sinensis (L). O. Kuntze) seeds was in ves ti gated in the pres ent study. The state of con tin uum even at full ma tu rity and lack of a clear end point to seed de vel op ment as in di cated by the per sis tence of ap pre cia ble con tents of pro teins at full ma tu rity in all the seed parts fur ther con firmed the ‘re cal ci trant na ture’ of the tea seeds. Un like the or tho dox seeds, the level of free IAA in tea em bryos also re mained high even at full ma tu rity. The to tal RNA con tent re mained high in the stages with high mois ture con tent but de clined with pro gres sive de cline in mois ture con - tent
