Abstract
Caration is gaining popularity as an important cut flower crop among flower of HImachal Pradesh, due to congenial dimatic conditions od some areas of districts Mandi, Bilaspur, Solan, Kullu,Chamba etc. It is very important to evaluate economic viablility of carnation cultivation as a commercial cut flower crop in long run. The study was done with the aims to analyse the economic viability of carnation production under polyhouse conditions in Himachal Pradesh.Data pertaining to different cost components and out put of carnation cultivation were collected through personal interview from flower growers of Mandi and Bilaspur districts.Economic parameters like Net Present Value (NPV), Annuity Value (AV), Benefit Cost Ratio(BCR), and Pay Back Period (PBP)etc. were evaluated to assess the economic viability of carnation production. The results show that production of carnation under polyhouse conditions is economically viable in Himachal Pradesh.
